Vintage 2021 begins.

Late February early March each year has the vineyard and winery team knee deep in grapes as the harvest reaches its peak.

There are a lot of tired bodies, wine stained hands and the odd wild example of slightly unkempt facial hair being exhibited at the moment as the team spend long hours at the winery getting stuck into transforming the year’s hard work into some high quality wines.

2021 has seen some really favourable mild growing conditions which has ensured some great flavours, good levels of natural acid retention and some lovely tannin profiles in the juice making picking decisions slightly easier than they have been over the last few years. Whilst its very early days with only the first reds having completed fermentation and been pressed off, Scott and the winemaking team are pretty excited for the potential from the year.

The focus over the next few weeks is to stay ahead of the ripening fruit and ensure we harvest and get the grapes into the winery at the absolute optimum time.

A huge shout out to the whole team at Schild Estate, a time where everyone pushes a little harder, works much longer and laughs louder. We'll keep the beers cold, the fridge stocked with food, drinking water flowing and team spirits high.
