Our Family

The Schild family name is synonymous with hard work, long-sited commitment, hearty laughs, warm smiles and an enjoyment of all the good things that come from being surrounded by family.

Ed has been head of the company since the tender age of 16 after his father, Ben, passed away unexpectedly.

He married Lorraine in 1962 after a flirtatious courtship (something to ask Ed about when you meet) and together they have four children and grew the family business into what it is today.

If you happen to see Ed around Schild Estate pull up a chair and if you're lucky he'll have time to tell you some of the incredible stories from the Schild family and the local region. His gift for remembering the smallest of details is something to behold.

Lorraine is known around the Barossa for her delicious German Cucumber Salad - which many vintage workers have been treated to over the years. We've asked for the recipe but she's not giving up the secret ingredients.

The Schild "kids" have grown up in the vineyards. Their stories are entwined into the Schild Estate brand as much as the vineyards and the wines have become an integral part of their stories.

Michael and Leanne both work at Schild Estate, Mick as Head Vigneron and Leanne as Exports & Logistics Manager.

The four siblings are Schild through-and-through; they love welcoming people with well-known Schild generosity, they are quick to laugh and not afraid of long-sighted hard work.

There are 7 Schild Grandchildren all now young adults exploring the world and continuing on the Schild family story.
