Vines with a story to tell.
For years it was thought that these 1847 Ancestral vines were planted by William and John Jacobs. However it was their younger sister Ann Horrocks (nee Jacobs) who purchased and established the Moorooroo farm. After arriving by boat in 1839 at just 21 years old, the original Land Grant shows Ann paid £500 for 500 acres. In her diary, available from the South Australian State Library, she talks of establishing vines, oats, barley and fruit trees as well a large dairy, the building of which can still be seen today.
When Ann married she subsequently had to transfer ownership to her brother William Jacob who is often credited with her pioneering work in the Barossa Valley.
We are humbled to be telling Ann's story and continuing on her legacy as current custodians of the land and vines.
